We seek to fill a Ph.D. student position in our research group as of October 1, 2012. The topic of the Ph.D. thesis will be the investigation of of negative ion formation in MALDI mass spectrometry, and is funded by an ETH-internal grant. A better understanding of
negative ion formation in MALDI will have immediate applications in the study of metabolites, oligonucleotides, and phosphopeptides, compound classes that are naturally detected as negative ions in mass spectrometry. The project will include use of vacuum-based as well as atmospheric pressure MALDI sources, and of high-performance mass spectrometers (FT-ICR).
Prerequisites: M.Sc. degree, Diploma or equivalent in Chemistry or related area, strong background in analytical chemistry or physical chemistry.
